Fresh Is Best Snacks
Report Card Rubric

Download Bedford Public Schools' Kindergarten report card rubrice below:

Thank you for your continued support of our “Fresh is Best” snack policy. The staff is also doing this for snack time and we were excited as children shared stories of trying things for the first time and liking them. Please understand that this is just not about allergies and keeping all of our students safe. “Fresh is best” simplified snack time and increased instructional time because teachers weren’t reading labels, opening snacks, sending students to the lunchroom for sporks or napkins, and calling custodians for clean-ups. The ten minutes or so a day we are gaining back can add up to an additional week of instruction. Thank you for your help in this matter.

Sight Words

Download Bedford Public Schools' Kindergarten sight words below. Once your child has mastered the Kindergarten sight words, they may move on to the 1st and 2nd grade sight words.

Scholastic Book Orders

Visit scholastic.com/readingclub and use the class code NH39R to access the Kindergarten order forms, as well as books for pre-schoolers and older students. Books ordered online will still be sent to our classroom, and our class will still receive credit for the order/free books for our classroom library if you use the class code.

Latchkey Payments

You can now make Latchkey payments online using MySchoolBucks. It's a simple and easy way to pay online, check your billing status and more. Just look for the Latchkey Store on the parent resource page of your child's school website.

Picking Up Early

Please let the school know  if you are picking your student up from school during the school day we will only release students to their parents or guardians without a note. Everyone else who is on your child’s pick up list will require a note. Thank you for helping to keep our students safe.

Head Lice

Please read the attachment regarding head lice. It is the time of  year when we need to be mindful and remind students not to share combs, hats, helmets, etc.

Outdoor Recess and Rain/Winter Wear

Please review the information from the BPS Elementary Handbook regarding recess. Recess is provided for our students each day. Students should dress appropriately for all weather conditions. At the discretion of the principal, recess may be held indoors if the weather is too inclement or if the temperature/wind chill is at or below 15° F.

**If your child wears rain or snow boots to school, please remember to send a spare pair of shoes for them to change into, as clunky boots in the classroom tend to lead to falling kiddos. If the kids do not have snow boots for recess on snowy days, they play on the black top.

Illness/Absences/Tardies

This is just a friendly reminder that students must be fever-free for 24 hours (without using any fever-reducing medication) and have not vomited for 24 hours. This is a rule from the state of Michigan and is in place to keep students safe and to keep illness from spreading.

Please call the building health aide to report when your child is absent or tardy prior to the start of school. The number for JRE is 734-850-6620. Please save this number in your cell phone. Thank you for your help in this matter. It is truly appreciated.

Attendance/Truancy

Please take some time to review the Monroe County Truancy Protocol which is also located in the Elementary Student Handbook on page 9. Regular school attendance is one of the basic components of a good education. Excessive absences may result in the referral of the student and the student’s parents to the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office. Upon the 8th absence by a student, the school administrator will contact the student and student's parents to address the issue of truancy and offer assistance to the parents in eliminating this behavior. (An out-of-school suspension does not count as an unexcused absence.) If the pattern of repeated absences continues, the building administrator will contact the Monroe County Prosecutor. There are three ways in which the Prosecutor's Office and the courts can become involved in an attempt to solve a student's truancy problem: 1. Charge parents in District Court. 2. Charge juvenile criminally in Family Court. 3. Open a Child Protective Proceeding in Family Court.
