About Ms. Tincher

I grew up cheering for the Maize and Blue, so I was honored to find out that I had been accepted to the University of Michigan as a first generation college student. College wasn't the gauranteed "next step" for people in my family, but I am excited to say that I was the one to change that. My time at U of M was spent enjoying football Saturdays and basketball games in between rounds of studying and learning about Ann Arbor's rich history. I also spent much of my time volunteering for Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan, the largest student organization on campus, which raises over $500,000 each year to support pediatric rehabilitation at C.S. Mott and William Beaumont Children's Hospitals. I love to relax with a good book; the Harry Potter series is one I grew up reading, and I am currently enjoying re-reading each of the seven books in my free time.

As a child I was a competitive dancer, and I trained for hours a week in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, and just about everything in between! I believe that learning through movement is so important, as students tend to be more engaged if their bodies are fully immersed in the learning process. During Middle School and High School, I assisted my instructors in classes with younger students, and my love for teaching others began. I continued to teach dance classes and eventually swim lessons throughout high school. I currently teach swim lessons at Goldfish Swim School - Ann Arbor, where I follow a curriculum for each class and hold "mini conferences" at the end of each 30 minute session with the parents and caregivers of each swimmer.

I also enjoy finding new ways to incorporate technology into the classroom, not as a substitute for paper and pencil work, but as a way to motivate students as well as teach them how to use the devices that they interact with every day in an educational way. Technology is such a large part of our society today, and I believe that students need guidance on how to use their devices safely and responsibly as a way to enhance their lives.
